チベット仏画とは Thangka
綿の画布に、チベット仏教に登場する如来、菩薩、各宗派の祖師・高僧の尊像、または仏伝図、六道輪廻図、薬草図などを、決まり事に則って描き、さらに軸装や額装を施した絵画のことを「チベット仏画（タンカ）」と言います。
チベットでは法要の時や観想修行に用いたり、寺院を荘厳したり。多くの人々が、徳を積む為に寺院に寄進します。また、一般の家にも必ず何枚かは飾られています。かつては教育の機会がなかった人々の為に、絵解きで解り易く仏の教えを説く時にも用いられた様です。
チベット仏画（タンカ）は、単なる絵ではなく、仏そのもの。教えそのものとして常に人々に寄り添って支えとなっているのです。
What is Tibetan Buddhist painting?
Thangkas are paintings of Tibetan Buddhist
images of Buddha, Bodhisattvas, patriarchs, and high priests of various schools
of Tibetan Buddhism, as well as images of Buddhist traditions, the Six Realms,
and medicinal herbs. All Thangkas are painted in accordance with the prescribed
rules on cotton cloth mounted on a frame or for scroll.
In Tibet, thangkas are used for Buddhist
memorial services, contemplation practices, and to solemnize temples. Many
people donate thangkas to temples in order to accumulate virtues. In addition,
there are always several pieces of thangkas displayed in ordinary houses. In
the past, thangkas were used to explain the Buddha's teachings in an
easy-to-understand manner for those who did not have the opportunity for
education.
Tibetan Buddhist paintings (thangkas) are
not mere pictures, but the Buddha himself. As the teachings themselves, they
are always close to people and support them.
